Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Madam Jean Mensa has provided an explanation why she and her deputies did not attend the official inaugural ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
The EC Chair stated in response to a question that by policy, EC officials have never attended presidential swearing-in ceremonies.
She also disclosed that they did not receive any official invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony held on January 7, 2025.
‘’Let me say that I was here in the country, but I think the policy is that the commission members, chairperson, and deputies don’t attend swearing-ins. It is also by invitation, and we have never received an invitation to swearing-in. I know that all the dignitaries and those special guests are invited. But it has always been a matter of policy that we don’t attend swearing-ins. At least for the duration that I have been here or the duration we’ve been in office, we’ve never attended any swearing-in.’’
