Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child has access to quality education.
He underscored the urgent need to address the growing challenges of child labour and street begging, which continue to deprive many children of their right to learn.
The Minister made the remarks while delivering the keynote address on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama at the National Education Forum in Kumasi today, Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
He also reiterated the president’s dedication to inclusive and participatory governance, highlighting his consultative approach in crafting the People’s Manifesto and his continued engagement with stakeholders to shape policies that reflect the aspirations of the people.
Commenting on education financing, the minister underscored the president’s advocacy for a costed national education policy.
“While the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), established 26 years ago from a similar forum, has played a pivotal role in supporting education, we must explore additional funding mechanisms to ensure sustainable support for higher education,” he said.
The minister further addressed concerns about regulatory oversight and accountability in the education sector, particularly the rise of institutions offering unaccredited programs, which have negatively impacted graduates.
He posited that “strengthening accreditation standards is essential to preserving the credibility of our education system and safeguarding students’ futures. Let us work together to build an education system that guarantees every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.”.
