A fire outbreak at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) in Tamale has damaged transformers, insulators, and other essential equipment.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Fire tenders were deployed from both the metropolitan station and the hospital.
Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Baba Hudu, speaking in a media interview, indicated that “We immediately dispatched two fire tenders, but due to the intensity of the fire, they were insufficient to fully extinguish it. As a result, we had to request additional water supply from the water company,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Corporate Communications Director of NEDCo, Maxwell Kotoka, has assured the public the outbreak will not affect power distribution.
“The warehouse itself has lost power supply, but we are working to resolve the situation. At this point, no external institutions have been affected,” he added.
