The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has expressed gratitude to residents in the region for the massive participation in the regional sanitation, assuring this will not be a nine-day wonder but a sustainable exercise.
The Minister launched the regional Sanitation Day on 28th February 2025 in Madina, Accra.
Commenting on the exercise, she stated that it is an initiative to help keep the city clean.
In an interview today, Monday, March 3, 2025, on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the minister posited that unlike previous sanitation exercises that failed, this one will survive.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the aim of President John Dramani Mahama is to keep the entire nation clean, and as citizens, we have a responsibility to support the initiative.
Madam Ocloo said President John Dramani Mahama will soon launch the National Sanitation Day and has therefore appealed to Ghanaians to support the initiative.
The Minister said, ‘’The launch of the regional sanitation exercise was successful. I was particularly excited because of the level of participation. The chiefs and people of the area participated; the residents and traders in Madina were involved. We advised them to take this exercise seriously because cleanliness was crucial, especially in the face of the cholera outbreak. The people understood the essence of cleaning their communities. I want to thank everyone, including the other regions that participated.
This exercise will not be a nine-day wonder. President Mahama will soon launch the national sanitation day exercise, and so we will have a national sanitation day. The reason why we launched the Greater Accra regional exercise was because the region is filthy, and we needed to clean. After the launch of the national exercise, we will find a way to merge it and see how we can have two exercises, including the national one and the regional one.”
