The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has issued an ultimatum to the MP who described Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the “daughter of a murderer.”
Mr. Bagbin has given the MP one week to voluntarily come forward or face severe consequences.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, he described the comment as reckless and deeply disturbing.
He opined that the comment by the MP, who is yet to be identified, undermines the dignity and decorum of the House.
He announced the launch of a formal investigation to identify the MP behind the statement and warned that failure to comply with the ultimatum would lead to serious consequences.
“A lot of work has been done, and I urge the member responsible to own up,” he said.
“I advise the member responsible to, within the week, show honesty and plead, then wait for the outcome of investigations.”
“I strongly condemn it as a behaviour unbefitting of a member of Parliament,” Alban Bagbin added.
His directive was supported by the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, who joined in urging the MP to take responsibility for the comments and come out.
He stated that if the MP refuses to come forward, the House will support the imposition of the highest sanctions once the investigation identifies the individual.
