Fifty-two (52) students from public and private schools in Ghana’s 16 regions were honoured at the 32nd President’s Independence Day Awards Ceremony for their academic achievements in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The annual event, sponsored by Nestlé Ghana Limited, recognises and rewards exceptional young students aged 14 to 19 from across the 16 regions.
The company recognised 32 students from public junior high schools, 16 from private institutions, and four with hearing and vision impairments.
Nestlé Ghana presented the students with plaques to commemorate their achievements, as well as a laptop and educational supplies.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who was at the ceremony, commended the students for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to continue excelling in their academic pursuits.
She called for a collective effort to revamp the country’s educational system.
“Let me congratulate you on how far you have come. Yes, you have come far, but you have much further to go. This is a good step; keep going, realise your potential, and pursue your dreams. Do not stop yourself, and do not allow others to stop you,” she said.
On his part, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana, Georgios Badaro, indicated that the company remains committed to enhancing the value chain and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are working closely with our suppliers to improve the value chain, as well as enhance quality and sustainability. We are also exploring regenerative agriculture options to promote sustainable farming practices in Ghana,” he said.
