A borehole project has been commissioned for the Kukua Community.
The project, which was commissioned on March 6, 2025, coincided with Ghana’s 68th independence anniversary celebration.
The project was funded by HOCHW Herr Karl Holerer, Austria, on his 50th priestly ordination anniversary.Kukua is in Ghana’s Eastern Region, in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar area. The community faces several challenges, including access to good drinking water.

A publication in the Daily Graphic newspaper about the water situation in the area drew the attention of Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa-Agyekum, DD, STD, Catholic Bishop of Koforidua.
Through appeals, he secured funding from HOCHW Herr Karl Holerer, based in Australia, to construct the borehole for the project.
He expressed gratitude to his colleague for funding the borehole project, stressing its importance in providing residents with clean drinking water.
Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa-Agyekum, DD, STD, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, indicated that ‘the borehole we are commissioning here today was funded by HOCHW Herr Karl Holerer, based in Austria, on his 50th priestly ordination anniversary.”I made an appeal to him, and he agreed to fund the project. We pray that God will reward him for his kindness.’Other dignitaries joined the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua for the commissioning.

A former assemblyman of the area, John Bekoe, represented the traditional leaders. In his speech, he thanked the bishop for pushing to have the borehole constructed.
He said the borehole will provide residents with good, clean drinking water, which they have been denied for years.
He was joined by Rev. Rev Msgr.Paul Lawer Kodjo the Parish Priest of Suhum St. Theresa Catholic church and Rev Father Eric Godways Amoyao.

In attendance were also teachers and pupils of Kukua R/C school, the Members of the Suhum Christian Mothers’ Association, the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Association, the Catholic Women Association members, and the Union Choir members of the Parish.
