The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has disclosed that there are 404 diplomatic passports and 387 service passports that remain outstanding from holders who have failed to surrender them after a directive was issued on January 14, 2025.
It would be recalled that the government issued a directive for all holders of diplomatic and service passports to return them.
The persons affected by the directive include former ministers and spouses, former Members of Parliament irrespective of their political affiliations, former members of the Council of State and spouses, former justices of the superior and lower courts, and former regional ministers, MMDCEs, officers of state institutions, chairs and members of boards.
Others include officials of the National Cathedral Project, former political ambassadors and dependents, businessmen and entrepreneurs, former government functionaries, and all other persons in possession of these passports.
A statement issued by the Ministry gave those who were yet to return their passports after the directive was issued until March 17, 2025, to surrender their passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau of the Ministry without fail.
The Ministry further cautioned that if these passports are not surrendered within the deadline announced, they would be cancelled and placed under the Stop Watch List for seizure at any of Ghana’s entry and exit points.
