Mr. Andrews Asiedu Tetteh, a security analyst, believes that President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to allow his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, to drive him to the Volta Region as part of his visit to the communities affected by the tidal waves was a serious security gaffe that should not be repeated.
He claimed that this was a serious security concern that put the president’s life at risk.
The analyst stated that the brother is not a trained driver to even drive the president.
He has therefore advised the president to detach his family from national issues.
Mr. Andrews Asiedu Tetteh stated that Ghanaians did not vote for Ibrahim Mahama, and thus he should not be seen around the presidency.
He stated, “It wouldn’t have been a problem if the president didn’t hold the highest office of the land and his brother drove him around, but he (Mahama) is a national asset, and holding such an office comes with the dos and don’ts.” We have highly trained security personnel who should be tasked with driving the president. One of the tests that those in America who drive presidential vehicles must pass is the ability to reverse at 120 kilometres per hour so that if the president is in danger, you can save him or her. They are also trained to protect the president in potentially dangerous situations. They also take an oath of allegiance.
The Ghanaians who have been trained to drive the presidential convoy also swear an oath of allegiance, and in dangerous situations, they are required to save the president. But we are talking about Ibrahim Mahama, a normal driver. He is not professionally trained to drive the president, and so if there is a danger ahead, I am not sure he will shield the president. So the president should stop joking with his security. His advisors should advise him on these issues.”
“If the president is injured, Ghana will be in danger. He’s not Ibrahim Mahama. Ibrahim Mahama is not a national figure, so if he is injured, it is not a major issue; however, the president is. This was unfortunate and a violation of the country’s laws; it caused fear and panic, and it should not happen again. The presidency is not a joke; it is not a family or friend affair. It is a serious business that must be handled as such. He should not allow his family to be present during his presidency.”
