Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson says the government has allocated GH¢51.3 million as a seed fund for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.
The minister disclosed this when he submitted the 2025 budget statement before parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
Communicators of the government consistently argued that if established, the bank would also ease access to capital for already established women entrepreneurs, especially those in rural communities and the informal sector.
The bank is also expected to provide women with access to capital that would enable them to expand their businesses, hire more employees, and ultimately contribute to reducing the country’s unemployment rate.
In the budget statement, the minister said,’Mr. Speaker, we have also allocated GH¢51.3 million as a seed fund for the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank.
In a related development, the minister also announced that the government has also allocated GH¢300 million to the National Apprenticeship Programme.
Through the initiative, the government seeks to provide robust vocational training for individuals who missed out on educational opportunities and will help reduce unemployment.
Aside from that, the government further allocated GH¢100 million to the ‘Adwumawura’ Programme, while for the National Coders Programme, ‘’we have allocated GH¢100 million.’’
