The ADB and the National Investment Bank (NIB) need a GH₵2.2 billion capital injection to sustain their operations, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed.
Presenting the budget statement on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the minister said the financial sector has not yet recovered from the domestic debt exchange program that saw banks recording some losses.
“The sector requires GH¢10.45 billion to address the remaining financial sector legacy issues and emerging risks. In addition, an amount of GH¢2.2 billion is required to fully capitalise NIB and ADB,” he said. .
He added that although the previous government spent GH¢30.3 billion in the financial sector clean-up exercise by the end of 2024, the challenges confronting the banks had not been resolved.
The amount includes GH¢26.9 billion spending for the banks, savings & loans companies, financial houses, micro-finance institutions, and asset management companies, the minister added.
