Ablekuma West Member of Parliament Rev. Kweku Addo has revealed that plans are underway to convert the Ebenezer Secondary School into a boarding facility.
According to the lawmaker, it is part of the plans to ensure the school gains a boarding school status.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Rev. Addo said, “It is one of the projects that we will try to help so that it can gain the boarding school status so education levels can improve.”
He was reacting to concerns raised by some residents in the area who play football at the school park of the school.
They claimed the management has now fenced the school to prevent residents from using their park to play football, following cases of vandalism and other unauthorised activities.
Rev. Kweku Addo said it would not be proper for the residents to play football at the school if it were a boarding facility.
He advised them not to jump the walls of the school but to find ways to engage management on the best way forward.
“It is commendable that the residents do not want to jump the walls of the school because that would constitute a criminal offence. Only thieves jump walls. They should inform the authorities of the days they wish to play football so that the head of the school can notify the watchman to grant them access.
One other thing he observed was that the previous government had planned to use a portion of the land in the school for an Agenda 111 project, but afterwards, some individuals stole materials for the project, so the back gate had to be secured.
“However, there are two alternative entrances to the school, and if they inform the school authorities of their intention to play football there, they would be granted access.”
He stressed that he will try to help ensure that the school gains a boarding status.
