Criminologist and lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Department of Sociology and Social Work, Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware has advised newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu to dedicate a lot of effort to addressing issues such as robberies and funny murders in certain parts of the country, especially in the Ashanti region.
The lecturer prayed for him to succeed after commending and congratulating him for assuming the topmost position in the police service.
After his congratulatory message, he appealed to the new IGP to deal with the challenges confronting our internal security and design swift measures to deal with criminals in the country.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said,’We congratulate him and welcome him to the position as IGP. We are praying that he will succeed at his role and excel in whatever he has set out to do. My key prayer is that he (Yohonu) will deal with crime, especially robberies and sometimes very funny murders in certain parts of the country, especially in the Ashanti region. I would appeal to him to focus his attention in the Ashanti region. The recent cases of robberies, especially with businesses and MOMO operators. I think that he has to focus his attention there because the pattern we have recorded in the region in the first quarter of the year doesn’t look good.
He said the IGP ought to deal with the situation so people can feel safe and be able to go about their normal duties.
‘’I wish him all the very best. I know him within the circles. I pray and hope that just as his predecessor Dampare did a good job, he should also carry on from wherever he (Dampare) left.”
He further appealed to Ghanaians,’most especially people within the police service; they should give their support to whoever is in charge. They should do away with the sabotage. We should stop with all the schemes to undermine leaders. We cannot have everyone promoted at the same time. They should all dedicate themselves to discharging their duties, and everything would be fine.
