President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in Patience Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service. She was sworn into office at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 17, 2025.
However, the swearing-in ceremonies for Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the acting Chief Fire Officer of the GNFS, and Samuel Basentale Amadu, the acting Comptroller-General of the GIS, have been postponed.
President Mahama disclosed that the delay in their swearing-in is due to procedural differences in the appointment processes of the respective services.
He admonished the new Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service to dedicate herself to improving the welfare of the service personnel as well as the inmates in our various correctional centres.
The president believes the appointments of these security heads are crucial because these heads and their personnel ensure that Ghanaians can live without fear, whereas businesses can thrive.
He asked her to maintain discipline and ensure that our institutions don’t only enforce the laws but also maintain professionalism, discipline, integrity and respect for human dignity.
For her part, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the government’s vision for a modern and humane correctional system.
“This government’s mission for a progressive and humane prison system inspires us all, and I am committed to working tirelessly to realise this vision and to lead the next phase of modernization and retransformation of the Ghana Prisons Service,” she stated.
