Andrews Asiedu Tetteh, a security analyst, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama for dismissing all of our security agency heads at once.
He believes the President’s action was a bad security decision that exposed the incompetence of his security advisors.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, he stated that from where he sits, the President’s decision to sack all of the various security heads constitutes a threat.
“I feel what the President did is terrible. He ought to have taken caution. To put all the security heads together and sack all of them at the same time within a few days is not a wise security decision. They still have people who work in the security services, and so this could trigger some reactions,” he asserted.
He claimed that sacking all security heads at once does not appear safe. Economically, we face challenges. If we have some sectors facing challenges that we are addressing, you do not fire all of the security heads at once.”
“The president should have been discretionary in handling our security matters. He should not have sacked the security capo within the same period. He should have allowed them to continue working and change them within a time frame.”
He has therefore advised that our government takes time in dealing with some of these issues to avoid any security threats.
He added, “This is a mistake from where I stand. When security chiefs are relieved of their positions, they become uncomfortable at home because they have nothing else to do since they were trained to fire guns and deal with other security issues. I’m not implying anything negative, but the fired officials have boys in the service who can influence them. When you decide to fire all of your security heads at once, you show a lack of understanding of security issues. Although the president has the constitutional authority to make appointments, he should have exercised discretion and not fired everyone at once”.
