Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabena and Gender Minister, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has disclosed that former President Akufo-Addo prevented her from dealing with corruption at the School Feeding Secretariat.
The lawyer alleged that the level of corruption she witnessed at the School Feeding Secretariat was disgusting and a fleece on the country’s resources.
In a recent interview on Movement TV, the former Minister dared the party and former officials to deny her claims, stating that she would make further allegations against them.
According to her, the corruption in the School Feeding programme was huge, but President Akufo Addo, who ordered her to audit, later denied her and asked her to put the audit report aside.
Madam Adwoa Safo also accused the late National Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme, Gertrude Quashigah, of being corrupt.
She alleged that the late coordinator one day walked into her office and offered her a deal to the effect that she wanted the minister to approve for them to create ghost schools so they would make money and share it together. When she refused, the late coordinator told her there were more powerful people who were benefiting from this deal.
The former MP said her troubles started when she made the attempt to stop the rot at the School Feeding Programme. Answering why she refused to talk about this in the past, she disclosed that “they ganged up against me, and so talking at the time painted me black, and so nobody would have believed me. But this is the time for me to talk, so I will clear my name from all the lies and falsehoods they propagated against me.”
She added, “The former coordinator never attended any meeting I invited her to. When I asked why, she told me she had more powerful people at the presidency she reported to. The reason why I was hated was because President Akufo-Addo asked me to conduct an audit at the School Feeding Programme and submit my report to cabinet. The majority of the rot at the programme was from the Central Region. I am therefore admonishing the current government to investigate and deal with the corruption at the school feeding programme.
Former President Agyekum had good intentions regarding the programme, but the level of the rot I witnessed was appalling. I submitted the report, but the former president subsequently denied issuing the instruction for the audit due to the pressure he faced. I was later instructed to discard the report, which marked the beginning of my troubles. Although the late coordinator has passed away, I have no intention of tarnishing her reputation or that of her family; however, I must also clear my name. Furthermore, I am challenging the party to deny these allegations, and I will provide evidence to refute them, demonstrating that the defeat we suffered in the 2024 elections will be the least of our concerns.”
