Security analyst Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has stated that Ghanaians should not credit the newly appointed Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu with the arrest of the supposed key suspect in the death of Ahmed Suale.
He noted the arrest of the said suspect is a great move by the police, but the arrest may have been done following years of dedicated work by the police service.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said, “The arrest of the key suspect is a police move. Crime has no expiry date, and so it is our expectation that if there is somebody in a position and he or she is unable to do something, when a new person is appointed, that individual should do better.
However, what I want Ghanaians to understand is that the arrest of the suspect behind the death of Ahmed Suale did not happen under the new IGP. It had taken years by the police through investigation and dedicated work before the arrest. The suspect was not arrested because there is a new IGP in office. The arrest of hardened criminals and police investigation is not a day’s job. It takes long to unravel matters of security.”
He added that pursuing criminals of high criminal matters takes time and diligence, and so it is only a coincidence that the arrest came at the time that the new IGP took.
“Investigation may have gone on for years, and the suspect arrested, and not because the new IGP used any form of magic to arrest the suspect. There is the possibility that the immediate past IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and his team did some form of work in arresting the suspect,” he added.
