Ernesto Yeboah, Founder and Leader of the Economic Fighters League (EFL), has commended the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for presenting to Parliament a Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2462) aimed at removing the President’s authority to grant mining licenses in forest reserves.
Commenting on this in a Facebook post, the youth leader said although they wanted the L.I. 2462 to be repealed, they commend the NDC for taking this step.
He was of the view that we don’t only need amendment since that will give room for exploitation.
He strongly stated that the fight against illegal mining requires decisive action and strict enforcement of our laws.
Ernesto Yeboah averred that we don’t need half measures in the fight against galamsey and called on Ghanaians to demand accountability from our leaders.
His post on Facebook read “Kudos to the NDC for taking action, but our demand remains the full repeal of L.I. 2462, not just an amendment. Anything less leaves room for continued exploitation. The real fight against galamsey requires decisive action, strict enforcement, and accountability—not half-measures. We must stay vigilant and demand nothing short of total repeal. #StopGalamseyNow””
The Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2462) was successfully laid on Thursday, March 2025.
It was laid by the Minister for Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim, on behalf of the Environment Minister, Murtala Mohammed.
If passed, the new legislation would revoke the president’s authority to grant mining licences in forest reserves.
