A massive fire broke out at the Adum Railways trading hub in the Ashanti region’s famed “Blue Gate” area.
The fire, which started around 5:30 a.m., is currently spreading and destroying shops in the area.
The area is known for trading second-hand goods such as clothing, footwear, bags, and locally made shoes.
The fire spread through several buildings, including the Despite building, which houses Hello FM, a subsidiary of Despite Media.
Fire personnel deployed to the scene to contain the fire are struggling to drive through the area with their vehicles due to the poor placement of wooden structures.
Some traders have attacked the officers, accusing them of responding late to their distress calls.
Meanwhile, staff from Hello FM were quickly evacuated to safety as the fire approached the radio station’s premises.
The station has temporarily suspended its operations due to the ongoing threat posed by the blaze.
