Executive Director of the Centre for Public Awareness and Opinion (CenPOA) has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to maintain the payment of the teachers and nursing training allowances.
Michael Donyina Mensah stated that the decision by the NDC to maintain the policy is just for political reasons.
He posited that per the political philosophy and plan of the NDC, they had no business maintaining the policy.
He described it as an unnecessary financial burden on the Ghanaian taxpayer.
“The government has not made any intention to scrap it, but I strongly believe the nursing and teacher training allowance has been maintained for political reasons. If you examine the political philosophy and plan of the NDC, they have no business paying nursing and teacher training allowances, but because of politics, they have decided to still pay. Truth be told, this is just an unnecessary burden on the Ghanaian taxpayer.”
As a result, he has stressed the importance of scrapping the allowances.
