Afram Plains North Member of Parliament has asked the Minority Caucus to stop being partisan, behaving as if they have been in opposition for years.
Mr Worlase Kpeli averred that the minority in parliament have started their unconstructive criticism of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) too early and will crash if they fail to tread cautiously.
The MP who entered parliament contesting as an independent candidate but has pledged to caucus with the NDC said the mess that the NPP is lamenting about was something they caused; hence, they should give the government a breathing space to reset the country.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the NPP’s incompetence and misrule left Ghana in its precarious situation, but they are behaving as if they have been in opposition for years.
The private legal practitioner said he does not agree with the minority for describing the budget as hopeless and an ‘azaa budget’, stating categorically that the NPP MPs are defending their past glory and discrediting the glory that is yet to come.
‘’ I disagree with the minority MPs because from where they sit, they are only defending past glory and discrediting the glory that was yet to come… They have been tasked to discredit anything from the government and credit their failed government.
I sometimes feel amazed at the minority because they know the hole that we were in before we got here and coming out from that hole; since they were the ones who sent us into that hole, it will be difficult for them to accept that they messed up the economy.’’
He continued ‘’I just wish they would rather help by putting up the positive motivation in this budget and encourage the government to do better than what befell them. They didn’t envisage what happened to them, but that is what it has come to be, so their positive attitude and constructive criticism of this budget will help all of us. It is too early for them to be criticising the government. They will end up crashing, so they should tread cautiously.’’
He was optimistic that the hope in the 2025 budget will be manifested practically so every Ghanaian will benefit from it.
