President John Dramani Mahama has stressed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative was created to fight corruption and ensure accountability in public office and not to witch hunt anybody, as speculated by the opposition.
The president posited that the ORAL provided a platform for whistleblowers to report corruption with proper investigative procedures in place.
He stated this while speaking to members of the Ghana Bar Association during a courtesy call on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
According to him, corruption was one of Ghanaians’ top five concerns during the last campaign, so the government must take a stronger stance on the issue.
“One of the issues we are confronted with is the issue of corruption and accountability in office. It’s become the norm for people to dip their hands into the public purse or misappropriate funds,” Mahama stated.
He said ORAL was designed to provide a direct platform for whistleblowers, with a hotline that received over 2,000 calls. While some allegations proved baseless, others were substantial and were forwarded to the Attorney General for further action.
“So I just wanted to clarify that it’s not an instrument for witch-hunting anybody. It’s an instrument for assisting in the fight against corruption,” Mahama added.
