Kabiru Tiah Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale Constituency, has slammed insufficient funding for Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC).
He argued that the GHC 28 million and GCH 16 million budget allocations fall short of the needed capital injection in the sector.
Honourable Kabiru Mahama, however, expressed support for the proposed budget approval of GH₵1,817,449,639.00 for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for the year ending 31st December 2025.
He highlights that the committee’s report promises payment to the country’s youth who have rendered services under the Youths in Afforestation programme with outstanding payments.
He commended the minister for budgeting GH¢28 million and GH¢16 million for the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), respectively.
These corporations were established by the NPP government to benefit the country from its mineral deposits.
However, the Walewale member of parliament notes that the allocated amount is insufficient for the needed capital injection in this sector. He emphasises the importance of enhancing development in the Eastern Corridor, which he believes is a concern shared by former President Akufo Addo.
