Chairperson for the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Nablah, has slammed President John Dramani Mahama for accepting the political games being used in the attempts to have the Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo removed from office.
She averred that this is purely a political attempt to have the Chief Justice removed without any justifiable reasons.
She believes if the processes to remove her succeed, it will be a slap in the face of women’s empowerment.
Madam Nablah says it will be injustice if the president fails to grant the request by the chief justice to be given copies of the petitions.
He argued that the third female chief justice ought to be given a fair hearing by granting her request for the copies so she would respond appropriately.
‘’It will not be legally wise for her request to be refused by the President. She has to be granted the opportunity to see the copies of the petitions so she can respond to them. The Chief Justice deserves to know those accusing her or demanding her removal. Ghana is a democratic state, and we cannot allow politics to destroy our independent institutions. President Mahama is not the first president of Ghana. Some have come before him; those who came before him received petitions, and we show how they handled it, so President Mahama should not breach the laws.’’
She criticised the NDC and NPP for politicising independent state bodies to the point where even our security agencies are divided along political lines.
‘’Some claim the President has the constitutional right to do what he is doing, but he cannot use political gymnastics in removing the Chief Justice. If he has the right to do these things, he should act in the interest of Ghanaians and not his political interests. The NDC and NPP have destroyed our state bodies. They have recruited party personalities into the security agencies. The Council of State is also the same with only party personalities.’’
