Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, wants Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin, the 2024 running mate for the NPP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and former ECG’s boss, Dubik Mahama, in connection with the missing containers.
According to him, these individuals must be held accountable for their roles in the alleged missing 1,300 containers.
He stated that the incident raises issues about procurement irregularities and mismanagement within the power sector.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, he said, “The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin, now wants to run away from responsibility, and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately.
“I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Mahama, and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action.”
Operatives from the National Security have arrested 14 persons in connection with the missing containers.
The suspects include 10 foreign nationals and four Ghanaians.
The Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Jinapor, condemned attempts by a section of the public playing politics with the missing containers.
“Since 2019, this crime is being perpetrated on the state. As a minister, I would ensure that we curtail this; we will follow and apprehend those responsible and retrieve the containers. In simple terms, I want my containers. Wherever the containers are, we will trace them,” he stated.
“We will do everything we can to trace these containers because they have serial numbers; they have manifests, and we would ensure that the law takes its course,” he added.
