National Chairman of the People’s National Party (PNP), Madam Janet Nablah, has taken a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the party is behaving as if we are under a military rule.
She asserted that although the NDC won the elections, it did not start well.
In her view, the burning of offices and invasion of public places and other locations was not far from a military regime.
Madam Nablah said she is not saying that all this lawlessness was committed by NDC members since some criminal minds may have taken advantage of the situation to misbehave.
She, however, maintained it was something negative that undermined public trust and confidence.
“The post-election violent incidents were unfortunate.” The upheaval and attacks were detrimental to our democracy. I understand that the acts may not have been committed by NDC members, as criminals could have exploited the situation. However, we are not required to allow this to continue. The NPP is also equally responsible for this. We must stop it because it is wrong.
She further claimed that the assurance by President John Dramani Mahama to fight corruption is a charade.
Madam Nablah speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM is engaging in political persecution by targeting only appointees of former President Akufo-Addo and clearing all persons who were being prosecuted by the previous government.
She stated that the attorney general is not trying crimes but clearing persons who were facing serious charges over their alleged involvement in corruption.
‘’If you think someone has committed an offence or engaged in corrupt activities, don’t use intimidation or send armed security officials to storm the residence of former appointees. If indeed you are practising democracy, invite the persons over and investigate them, but don’t send your NDC people to the former appointees wielding guns and intimidating them. You are making the youth of Ghana and those interested in politics rescind their decisions. This is purely a military regime, sending us back to the dark ages. Is this the reset he promised Ghanaians? You promised us a reset; Ghanaians trusted you, wasted their time, and queued to vote for a political party only to assume political power and behave in a worse manner than the previous government.
‘’The NDC came into power not to fight corruption or help Ghanaians but to punish political opponents. Its pure wickedness, and we will not allow them to engage in this lawlessness. If you think someone has committed any offence, drag the person before a competent court of jurisdiction and prosecute them. If we have observed that you want to replace our constitutional regime with a military regime, Ghanaians will not entertain that.’’
