Mrs Hannah Biamah Baafi Gunn, Planning Manager for the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has revealed that 80 out of every 100 accident-related deaths recorded are men, with the remaining 20 being women.
She noted that this is an annual trend, which is concerning and requires attention.
In an interview with Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, she stated that the total number of accidents recorded for the year 2024 was 13,489.
She noted that the vehicles involved in the accidents totalled 22,975, explaining that this figure was recorded because some of the accidents involved more than five vehicles.
She broke down the vehicles involved in the accidents, stating that 5,484 motorcycles, including “aboboyaa”, motorking, and others; 9,687 private vehicles; and 7,804 commercial vehicles were involved.
According to her, there were 2,494 recorded deaths in 2024, more than the 2,276 recorded during the same time in 2023.
“The sad aspect of the figure is that the number of deaths for men in 2024 was extremely high. Men accounted for approximately 80% of all recorded deaths. So, using a simple calculation, 80 out of every 100 deaths recorded were men. While the deaths recorded among the women were 20.”
