Security analyst Mr Andrews Asiedu Tetteh has reiterated his suggestion for the government to seek external support in dealing with the Bawku conflict.
The analyst says it has become evidently clear that our authorities lack what it takes in dealing with the matter.
The best approach, he opined, would be to seek help from external sources so we can end the conflict once and for all.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is leading a high-powered team of operations, investigation, and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East Region to assess the security situation on the ground.
He is visiting the area following a violent incident that occurred on Wednesday, which has so far claimed a life and injured five others, including two security personnel.
The violence is said to have been triggered by outrage over the alleged killing of a young man by the police.
Mr Andrews Asiedu Tetteh, reacting, posited that ”’the Bawku crisis is now terrorism. The government of Ghana has not shown any seriousness in dealing with the crisis. I would rather not say it is intentional. But it is not a priority for the government. The crisis did not start today. It has been in existence for more than thirty years. If we had anything to do about it, we would have done that already”.
‘’When it comes to energy crisis, we seek support from foreigners. In times of economic crisis, we go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout. So why can’t we seek external help in resolving the Bawku crisis that has claimed the lives of several people and left others maimed? We need external support regarding the Bawku conflict because it is obvious that we can no longer deal with it. Bawku is now a terrorist area. If care is not taken, it may turn into a full-blown terrorist activity.’’
He stressed, “The Bawku crisis has gotten to a stage where Ghana can no longer handle it, and so we have to invite an external body so that they cannot support us”.
