The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohonu, is leading a team to Bawku in the Upper East Region to attain first-hand knowledge and assess the security situation on the ground.
The team comprises operations, investigation and intelligence officers who left for the area today, April 10, 2025.
A statement issued and assigned by the Director of Public Affairs for the GPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, said the Service, working with the Ghana Armed Forces on April 9, 2025, restored calm at Bawku following violence involving some youth of the town and the police.
According to the statement, one person identified as Fuseini Iddrisu lost his life during the incident, while five others, including one police officer and one immigration officer, sustained gunshot injuries and are on admission receiving treatment.
The IGP, while on this visit, is expected to commiserate with the bereaved family, visit the injured individuals and reach out to officers who lost their properties as a result of violence.
