The Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, has reacted to the final outcome of the case that was filed against him by the previous administration.
The lawmaker says the decision by the court to acquit and discharge him was a vindication that the case was politically motivated.
The Accra High Court on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, acquitted and discharged the sitting MP over charges including forgery and perjury.
He was accused of keeping his Canadian citizenship at the time he filed to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections.
But the court, in its final outcome, declared that the prosecution had not provided enough evidence to support their charges against him.
Reacting to the outcome of the case, the MP said
“When you are not wrong, there is nothing you should worry about. No matter where you put the person, they will bounce back. So, that was my reaction, that I know I am innocent. I didn’t come here to bother anybody. I came here to help my community and serve my people,” he said.
“I made sure I did the right thing, but everything seems to be playing politics. We all knew that it was politically motivated. You heard the facts from the judges,” he added.
