The 29-year-old fisherman Nii Baah Afful, who was seen in a viral video assaulting his partner, Francisca Aryee, has been sentenced to one week in prison with hard labour.
He was sentenced by the Gender-Based Violence Court, located at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
The assault occurred on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno, where the suspect was seen attacking the victim while she held their 8-month-old baby during a domestic dispute.
The convict lived with the victim at Korle-Gonno and shared two children.
He was arrested on March 22, 2025, by the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit and subsequently remanded by the court.
He was arraigned on March 24 and, during a court hearing on April 9, 2025, pleaded guilty to the charges, leading to his imprisonment at the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.
A statement issued by the Accra Regional Police Command updating the public on the matter advised the Ghanaian public to report all forms of domestic abuse and encouraged victims to speak up and seek assistance through appropriate legal and support channels.
