The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspected illegal miners.
The suspects, according to the police, were arrested for engaging in illegal mining on the Black Volta River at Chiantanga Community near Dorimon in the Wa West District.
The suspects are Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese and Rebecca Tumawu.
A statement issued by the police disclosed that ten Changfang machines, two unregistered PNE and Apsonic tricycles and motorbikes with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010 and M-23-UW 4413, two unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes, and six student mattresses were retrieved from the site.
The suspects, according to the police, are currently in custody and assisting with the investigation and will be put before court.
