Executive Director for the Centre for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA), Michael Donyina Mensah, has warned that the Bawku crisis will get worse if the politicisation does not stop.
He expressed concern at how politicians have taken advantage of the crisis to execute their selfish political agenda.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said if the government remains committed, the crisis which has existed for years and led to the death of several individuals will end.
He also shot down suggestions that Ghana must seek external support in dealing with the crisis.
‘’We don’t need external support in dealing with the Bawku crisis. If the government is committed, it can easily resolve the crisis. It is an unfortunate situation. Politicians are the ones fuelling the crisis.’’
He lamented that a court had ruled on the matter, and yet the parties involved are not abiding by the court ruling.
Michael Donyina Mensah said in the last government because the Vice President was from Mamprusi, some people claimed they were emboldened to engage in lawlessness because one of their winners was in power.
”So, because of the political undertone, even bringing in Jesus Christ as a mediator will not resolve the issue. We must be truthful with ourselves, make bold and decisive decisions, and speak truth to power. However, if we try to take advantage of the situation politically, the crisis will continue to haunt us. If a political party supports a side even though that side has no case while in office, the crisis will worsen.”
