Prof. Samuel Essien-Baidoo, an associate professor of laboratory medicine and a fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science, has announced that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with Accra Technical University to provide dual certification to prospective students.
He explained this will allow interested students to pursue programmes of their Masters, membership and Fellowship all at the same time with just one payment to cover all three packages.
He made the remarks at a public lecture organised by the Ghana Association of Biomedical Laboratory Scientists on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in Accra.
The public lecture was held at the CLOGSAG Auditorium in Accra under the theme ‘’Biomedical Laboratory Scientists: Promoting Sustainability in Clinical Diagnostics’’.
He stated that the college will sign an MoU with two other tertiary institutions and encouraged professionals in the field to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue higher learning.
International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day is celebrated to increase the awareness of the vital role of medical laboratory scientists in providing quality healthcare – in diagnosis, quality assurance, treatment, research, and other developments in the modern era of medical science.
Prof. Samuel Essien-Baidoo encouraged the participants to consider upgrading their professional skills by investing in themselves and molecular technologies.
The professor with a background in health law and ethics asserted that there are a lot of exciting avenues for laboratory scientists, and bringing about good patient outcomes will depend on how precise they are with their findings.
He posited that there are opportunities for professionals to go above and beyond their current roles and position themselves as the citadel of hope for patients.
‘’There are several outlets; there are several research opportunities available… I pray that those of you who are thinking of enrolling at the college know that we are just coming from Accra Technical University because we’ve signed an MoU to have dual certification where you will be able to have a Masters, membership, and fellowship at the same time… ‘Hopefully in the coming weeks we will sign two MoUs with two other institutions, and we are inviting all of you to take advantage.’’
