The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in a joint operation with the Ghana Police and Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested 219 suspects in connection with cybercrime and human trafficking.
According to authorities, the suspects, the majority of whom are Nigerians, were arrested in Oyarifa.
During the special operations, the joint team seized laptops, phones, and other devices.
Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, the Acting Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), briefing journalists on the operation, disclosed that the suspects had lured the victims into the country, promising them lucrative jobs.
He indicated that since there were no lucrative jobs available, the suspects took the victims hostage and confined them at the Oyarifa Estate and forced them to go into cybercrime-related activities.
He added that a screening exercise was underway to separate the suspects from the victims, and by Friday, April 18, 2025, arrangements would be made to send the victims back to Nigeria to reconnect with their relatives.The Acting EOCO boss assured the Ghanaian public that the joint team will continue with the collaboration in dealing with similar crimes across the country.
