Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for GOIL, Edward Bawa, has stated that the country’s decline in oil production can be attributed to structural challenges.
He made the remarks while speaking at an oil and gas forum in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
He disclosed that Ghana’s oil output has fallen by over 25 per cent in recent years.
He attributed the drop to challenges such as underinvestment and inactive license holders.
“Let’s not deny or maybe pretend that the story in Ghana as we speak today is not good. It’s not good because if we were to look from 2019 up to now, production has slammed about 25%,” he said.
“This has been because of various factors—underinvestment because you have situations where even people who hold licences are not actual,” Bawa added.
