It’s too early to pass judgement on Mahama’s performance, although he’s chalked up some negatives – KAA

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes that while constructive criticism of the ruling government is important, it is premature to pass judgement on their performance.

He argued that one of the major challenges confronting our political space is the partisan politicisation of everything immediately after the general elections.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he told host Kwabena Agyapong that every new government should be given at least a year before any judgement about their performance is evaluated constructively.

‘’I have consistently stated that one of our major challenges is that right after the elections, we start the partisan politicisation too early. The media is also guilty of this. I believe every new government should be given at least a year before we can pass any judgement on performance.’’

He was, however, quick to add that the raid on the private residences of former appointees under the previous government was unfortunate and must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

He asserted that the NDC has no excuse to fail because they complained a lot and promised to fix our challenges.

Kwabena Agyei Aygyepong said the government must avoid the arrogance of power since that could affect them.

“Arrogance of power was one of the reasons we lost as a party, but I believe this current government is worse in terms of arrogance of power,” he said.

He also advised the NDC to avoid using propaganda and making unsubstantiated claims against political opponents. You can participate in politics without getting dirty. You win by doing your politics well, explaining your policies rather than engaging in dirty politics.
