Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has provided what he describes as “interesting facts” about the chop-embedded passport reforms.
In a Facebook post, the minister noted that Ghanaians who want the chip-embedded passport will not be charged extra for the courier service.
He indicated that officials at the passport office would be sanctioned if they fail to ensure that passports are delivered under the 15-day period.
The minister said the Ghana Post presence across the country will allow individuals with address challenges to pick up their passports from any of the branches.
Mr. Ablakwa stated that the new enhanced features of the Ghanaian passport are in line with the requirements from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). ICAO, which has projected that the current passports will be obsolete by 2030.
He said, “The cost of these reforms is being taken care of by the reduced passport application fees under a PPP arrangement, so the Ghanaian taxpayer has not been burdened with any additional contract.”
