Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement has once again lambasted the Ghana Bar Association for proposing the reinstatement of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo Sackey.
Dr Apaak had criticised the GBA for demanding the reinstatement of Madam Torkornoo, describing it as unreasonable.
He also asked that they commend the president for his adherence to the law during the process of removing the Chief Justice.
The Ghana Bar Association passed a resolution at its mid-year conference at the Labadi Beach Hotel urging the president to lift the suspension of the Chief Justice, her ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Members of the Bar expressed their displeasure with the substance and tone of the Ghana Bar Association’s statement dated April 24, 2025.
The lawyers criticised the Chief Justice’s suspension based on the petitions and the determination of a prima facie case, and they advocated for a constitutional instrument to guide the processes for removing judges.
Dr Apaak, who represents the constituents of Builsa South, stated that the president will not be distracted by an association that finds its voice only when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in office.
He has therefore advised them to head to court and challenge the process if they believe the president has breached any laws.
”President John Dramani Mahama will not be distracted by a Seasonal Association, which only finds its voice when the NDC is in power. If the GBA believes he has broken any laws, the courts are there.”
