A communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and CEO of BelaRussian Travel and Tour, Eric Sosu has underscored the need for sanitation contracts to be awarded to multiple waste companies.
According to him, no single company should be awarded contracts to manage waste in the country.
He proposed that assemblies be granted the power to award their own sanitation contracts to qualified companies.
He was speaking to Rainbow Radio when he joined the Golden Age of Ghana Tourism, an NGO on its cleanup awareness exercise at the Nationalism Park.
Mr. Sosu indicated that filth has engulfed several parts of the capital and other areas across the country.
He also lamented over the indiscipline on the part of Ghanaians, who dispose of waste indiscriminately.
He wants the laws of the country to deal ruthlessly with those who dispose of waste any way to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We have to enforce our laws and deal ruthlessly with those who dispose of waste indiscriminately. We need strong, strong institutions to enforce our laws in order to make our environment clean.
Ghana is the only country we have. There is no other country we have, and so it is our responsibility as citizens to clean our environment. The Assemblies should be granted the authority to award sanitation contracts. No single company should have the monopoly over sanitation contracts in the country.”
