President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Adwumawura Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship in Ghana.
The President launched the initiative today, April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi.
The Adwumawura Programme is designed to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 businesses annually, with a strong focus on empowering young people aged 18 to 35.
Beneficiaries will receive comprehensive assistance, including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and equipment.
“Our goal is to create at least 10,000 Ghanaian youth-owned businesses every year over a four-year period,” President Mahama told the gathering at the event.
He added that the programme is intended to be inclusive, youth-led, and open to Ghanaians from all walks of life, including those with little or no formal education.
“Many of the big businesses we see today started as small enterprises,” he said.
“With the right support, young Ghanaians can build businesses that not only change their own lives but also contribute to growing our national economy.”
The government has allocated a GH₵100 million from the 2025 Budget Statement, presented by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.
The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), operating under the newly established Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, will oversee the implementation of Adwumawura.
