A textile business in Accra’s Lapaz Market was damaged by fire, and the owner is in the hospital.
The outbreak occurred on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Information available indicates that the fire started on the top floor of a building, destroying bedding materials and goods worth millions of cedis.
The owner of the shop is said to have collapsed upon seeing her shop in flames and was rushed to the Lapaz Community Hospital.
Firefighters from the Abelenkpe branch of the Ghana National Fire Service were dispatched to the scene of the outbreak and managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby shops.
Speaking in a media interview, ADO I Emmanuel Akwetey, Operations Officer at the Abelenkpe GNFS, said his men tried their best in containing the fire.
He said the cause of the outbreak remains unknown and that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
“We tried our best to ensure the fire doesn’t extend to adjoining shops. Our men are still in there conducting investigations, so at the appropriate time, the owner will be invited to our station for the report.”
