The government will include teacher accommodation in school infrastructure development, according to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
The minister disclosed this at the inauguration of the Ghana Education Service Council at the ministry last week.
He explained that the initiative is crucial in ensuring that every Ghanaian child, regardless of background, gains access to quality basic education.
“The president has said that we should not develop any education infrastructure without supporting accommodation for the teacher,” Minister Iddrisu said. “So the teacher, the accommodation for teachers will get some support beginning this year.”
According to him, the government remains committed to investing in the foundations of education, from infrastructure to teacher development.
“We need to realise these full objectives, and we are investing as a government, and we would invest in the foundations, from infrastructure to teacher development, to ensure that every Ghanaian child, regardless of background, gains access to quality basic education,” he added.
He stated that the priority will not be compromised, even with the government’s commitment to providing free senior high school education.
“Let me assure you that this priority will not be compromised, even with our commitment to free senior high school,” he concluded.
