Founder and Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, has taken the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the cleaners over the latter’s attack on a police officer during the ‘Save the Judiciary’ demonstration.
He slammed the MP, describing him as a sore loser who was yet to recover from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) humiliating defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she noted that if a Ghanaian without any connection to politics or power had attacked a police officer, the person would have been arrested and held in custody.
Mr Afenyo-Markin has since petitioned the Inspector General of Police to probe Constable Forson after accusing him of assaulting during the demonstration.
Mr Afenyo-Markin claims that Constable Forson physically assaulted him at the parliamentary entrance, an incident he believes warrants immediate disciplinary action.
He also denied assaulting the officer, as reported by some media outlets.
But Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, in her remarks, said it was below the belt for an MP to assault a police officer, and he (Afenyo-Markin) must render an apology to the officer and Ghanaians in general.
‘’The MP must put up good behaviour and stop being reckless. He should put a stop to his skewed explanation, and if he has to come out and say something about the incident, he should come out and apologise for what he did to the police officer. His explanation is ridiculous and should not be entertained, and the NPP, as a serious political party, must condemn this and advise him to stop peddling falsehoods about this barbaric, stinking act.
She also served notice that she will stage a demonstration should the IGP refuse to take action against the MP.
