Divine Nkrumah, Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), says that while it is too early to evaluate the president’s first 120 days, he has noted some positives.
The young politician claimed that Ghanaians are enjoying a new atmosphere of leadership, as opposed to the abysmal leadership with experience under former President Akufo-Addo.
”I will not be fair to Ghanaians or the president himself if I score this government, but to give a general overview of how I perceive the performance thus far, there is a renewed positive energy in Ghanaians as a result of how the previous government messed up the country. Some of the promises he made to Ghanaians have already been fulfilled. One of them is the E-Levy, which he promised to scrap. Another thing I am pleased with is President Mahama’s ability to run a lean government, as opposed to the ‘obolo-sized government’ we witnessed under the previous administration.
Mahama’s decision to run a lean government will save us resources because the money we spend on appointees, their fuel, and other related expenses will be used for other purposes. Although it is too early to evaluate his performance after 120 days, he has done creditably well thus far. He should keep doing that, and he will have an impact. He must not disappoint Ghanaians. If the cedi continues to appreciate against the dollar and inflation remains stable, we will see something positive from him with a lasting legacy. But if he fails along the way, we will also criticise him,” he said.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Divine Nkrumah stated that another positive achievement for Mahama in his first 120 days would have been to complete the process of restoring the licenses of banks that were unfairly collapsed under the previous government.
Divine Nkrumah went on to say that he was looking forward to Mahama fulfilling his promise of forming an all-inclusive government and appointing members of other political parties.
‘’I am not undermining the competence of those who have been appointed; neither am I disputing their qualifications, but the president could have appointed others from the other parties based on merits and qualifications.’’
