National Chairman of the People’s National Party. Madam Janet Nablah has claimed that petitioners seeking the removal of suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo from office intend to gain popularity.
She maintains that their petitions are without merit and are merely an attempt to smear the respected Chief Justice.
Madam Nablah, who appeared on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, claimed that those behind these petitions use them for the sake of popularity or to gain popularity for themselves.
“They use the petitions to make a name for themselves.” The majority of the petitions they write are to establish a reputation for themselves.
She argued that it is not simply a matter of writing a petition; the most important question is whether these petitions have enough merit to warrant action.
”We have a responsibility to ask if these petitions have any merit; otherwise, people will simply get up and start filing petitions against people. When these petitions are filed, the heads of the various bodies or those who will deal with them must ensure that they are in accordance with best practices,” she stated.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the petitions against the Chief Justice lacked merit. There is no merit in any of the petitions, so I am extremely disappointed that President John Dramani Mahama is wasting our time and resources by forming a committee to investigate petitions without merit.
She went on to say that it is ridiculous for the Chief Justice to be dragged over benefits for her husband, claiming that this is not an issue because the President and Speaker of Parliament, as well as their spouses, benefit from the positions their spouses hold.
