The family of a pregnant deceased relative who was admitted to the midwifery department of Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa CP Awutu Senya East Municipality has accused the facility of their daughter’s death.
Relatives of the deceased accused the institution of carelessness, which they claimed resulted in the death of the 35-year-old pregnant lady who went in for delivery on Friday evening.
According to the report, the expectant woman was given medication to help her birth and instructed to rest on a bed in the labour ward.
The family claimed that after a few hours, their daughter began bleeding excessively and screaming for help, but the staff on duty in the delivery unit ignored her and were allegedly watching videos on TikTok.
In an interview with the deceased’s sister-in-law, Elizabeth Okra, she said they were told by those within the ward that the nurses were watching TikTok and refused to attend to the deceased, who was shouting and bleeding until she fell from the bed to the floor.
She said the deceased was later rushed to the theatre, and the doctor operated and removed the baby from her womb, but the sister-in-law was pronounced dead.
She also alleged that the faculty refused to inform them of the death of their relative until they insisted on being told her condition.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved brothers and sisters of the deceased hit hard on the nurses and accused them of killing their sister and threatened to deal with the nurses who were on duty that night and the management of the hospital if authorities failed to act.
