The Senior Staff Association of Ghana, in collaboration with the Technical University Administrators Association and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association, has declared an indefinite strike.
The strike action according to the two unions takes effect today, Wednesday, May 21.
They have accused both the current and previous governments of failing to honour a six-month-old agreement meant to improve their conditions of service.
National Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Ghana, George Ansong, warned they will remain on strike until their concerns are addressed.
“The Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana (TUWAG) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) announce, with deep regret but unwavering resolve, our decision to embark on an indefinite strike action,” Mr Ansong stated.
He lamented that “countless engagements and goodwill efforts extended to the government” had been met with “persistent inaction, neglect, and blatant failure” to honour the terms of a duly signed agreement from six months ago.
He stressed that the numerous rounds of dialogue and repeated reminders have yielded no positive results.According to him, despite extended timelines, the government has failed to deliver on its promises, forcing them to strike.
“The government has continuously reneged on its commitment, thereby undermining the trust and cooperation that should exist between both parties,” he added.
