The two suspects who were arrested by the Walewale Police in the North East Region for allegedly stealing a pistol and ammunition belonging to an immigration officer have been sentenced.
The two were handed five-year prison sentences with hard labour for stealing a pistol and ammunition from an immigration officer in Walewale.
The suspects entered the room of the officer while he was away and allegedly stole a pistol.
The suspects, Mohammed Basit, 18, and Baba Rasid, 22, stole the pistol, which was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition.
The suspects also stole the two rifle magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each.
According to the police, the two engaged in the unlawful act on May 17, 2025, and were arrested through intelligence at Kperiga, a suburb of Walewale.
An update provided by the police revealed the two pleaded guilty to the charges, and the court presided over by Justice Francis Asibayeri convicted them on their own plea.
He sentenced each of them to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
