The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has expressed deep disappointment in Members of Parliament (MPs) for failing to identify the MP who made the “daughter of a murderer” comment directed at Korle Klottey MP, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
He stated that investigations into the incident were still ongoing.
The Speaker was, however, disappointed that no MP had come forward, even though the remark was made openly in the chamber.
The Speaker was speaking on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, when the House resumed sitting from its Easter break.
“The investigations are still not concluded, but to be frank with you, I am very disappointed with all of you,” the speaker said. “A member seated in this House with all colleagues around uttered those words, and no single colleague can pinpoint who it was. Even among the three of you seated together — the zone is on the three — none can say who said it.”
He told the House that three minority MPs have been identified for the derogatory remarks which were directed at Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
“The majority members, with your numbers watching the minority — you are telling me none of you can identify the person who spoke? The person spoke not once but twice, and even the minority leader turned in that direction, yet still no identification?” he asked.
He was also disappointed that the House’s surveillance and CCTV systems failed to capture the offending MP.
“These are serious matters,” Bagbin stressed. “When they are properly brought to me, I take action. Shouts and noise will not compel me to act — you know what to do.”
